Mission Statement & About
Play With Dangerous Toys is on a mission to provide quality family friendly entertainment and performing arts education. As entertainment, Sophia Fairesword the Dancing Pirate and the wenches of Syren's Call dance with swords atop their heads delivering the feminine and frolicking side of Barbary Coast piracy. If the occasion calls for flame, Sophia will ignite one of her swords! In sword skills instructional sessions, the emphais is on safety and skill building.
Play With Dangerous Toys was founded in 2008 and has educated performing artists up and down the east coast. Sophia has performed in numerous events including the North Carolina Symphony event Pirates!, Wilmington's Pirate Invasion at Riverfest, Beaufort's Night in Tortuga fund raiser to benefit the Pirate Invasion, and Surf City's Dolphin Dip. She has also produced and performed in numerous cultural arts and fund raising events along the eastern seaboard.

Sword skills technique-based instruction for crew/krewe or troupe sessions. Play With Dangerous Toys sword education is appropriate for pirates, LARPers, and belly dancers. Curriculum Vitae
Sophia Fairesword holds a BA in Theatre with a minor in Classics and an MA in English Literature. She has studied performing arts at California's Dell Arte School of Physical Theatre and special effects makeup at California's prestigious Westmore Academy. She has over ten years' training in a variety of dance forms including European folkloric, the folkloric dances of Algeria and Tunisia, and Latin dance styles. She has worked with wigs and costumes for San Francisco Opera's touring company, as a makeup artist and stylist for television and print, and as a feature film makeup artist with credits including The Patriot, Cold Mountain, The Gift, Radio, Dawson's Creek, and much more. She has produced and performed in fund raising events to benefit a wide variety of charities including the Onslow Women's Center, Adopt an Angel No Kill Animal Shelter, the Mid Atlantic Great Dane Rescue League, The Triad Health Project, and Mile of Hope. She has also performed in a variety of piratical events along the eastern seaboard. On top of all this, she is a writer for a variety of national and international performing arts and entertainment publications and a college educator.
